Giving handmade gifts is probably my only real tradition - one that has endured for decades. My love of this began in the late 70's when I discovered McCall's Christmas Knit and Crochet magazine. Every year I eagerly waited for this issue to come out and found my inspiration in its pages (remember there were no computers or internet back then)!
Over the years I must have made more than one hundred items from the pages of these magazines. My go-to pattern was for lace crocheted snowflakes that were then starched and hung as Christmas ornaments. What is your go-to gift pattern?
Memories are flooding in as I write this post - I've truly forgotten just how many gifts I've made and given over the years. I remember my dad hanging the snowflakes in his living room window, and my Aunt Barbara using the crocheted tree skirt year after year even though it doesn't match the sophistication of her holiday decor. One thing I have learned is that to me the holidays are about giving - of your time, your attention, and of gifts truly from the heart. Oh, and I've learned who is knit-worthy and who is not!
